SOLD!

It’s the end of an era.

It’s the end of an era.

Ar Sgrail has been sold. Tomorrow she’ll be launched without us. And that feels quite surreal.

We’ve owned this Cabot 36 for nearly a decade, and we’re so glad this blog exists as a testament to all the amazing adventures we had with her.

We visited 18 different island nations, getting to know each one for days and sometimes weeks (and sometimes even months) at a time, making new discoveries and new friends on each.

We somehow managed to only dock at a marina a handful of times, which is pretty impressive. Ar Sgrail is much happier out at sea.

We sailed with whales and dolphins and swam with sharks.

We ate countless amazing meals, both on and off the boat.

We did several overnight passages, sometimes sailing up to three days straight, never feeling closer to nature than when it’s just you, the wind, the waves, the stars and the moon.

We nearly rode out COVID on the boat, then thought better of it and made a great escape back to Canada as the world shut down around us.

We spent countless hours doing boat work – shedding blood, sweat and tears – to make her the best boat she could be.

And nearly every season began and ended in the same place, our home away from home, Time Out Boat Yard in Saint Martin. Words fail me here. It’s very strange to think that we won’t be seeing our SXM friends like clockwork every November. Thank you and giant hugs to our Saint Martin family for all your help along the way. Come visit us anytime. The door is always open.

So what’s next?

We wrote off our J30 last summer when the mast spontaneously split in two, but fear not, there is a C&C 27 waiting in the wings for this summer on the Ottawa River. And as you can imagine, we now know lots of people with boats in the Caribbean (and beyond!), so we are now available as experienced crew (hint hint!).

One door closes so another can open. So while this is the end of an era, more adventures are in store!

For now, this is Ar Sgrail signing off. Over and out.
